Niuhetang Fm
Type Locality and Naming
The type section is located in Niuhetang, Yongde County, Yunnan province and named by Yunnan Geological Survey Brigade in 1984.

Lithology and Thickness
It is a set of continental eruptive basic volcanic rock series, which can be divided into three parts: Lower part is dense basalt; Middle part consists of andesite andesitic basalt and rhyolite, with siltstone; Upper part is dominated by dense basalt, interbedded with volcanic breccia.
Relationships and Distribution
Lower contact
It has a conformable contact with the underlying Hewanjie Fm. [BUT Tong et al. (2019, Triassic integrated stratigraphy and timescale in China, Science China: Earth Sciences, v. 62, no. 1) interpret that Ladinian is absent at this boundary => disconformity.]
Upper contact
It has a conformable contact with the overlying Dashuitang Fm
Regional extent
The formation is well developed in Zhenkang-Gengma area and Nandinghe area, and its thickness is 1393 m in Nandinghe area, 927m in Xuanlai, Zhenkang County, only 491 m in the Maiyanchang area.
